Regrowth was recently able to be present at the WAHRS Live Surgery Workshop, where we were able to take video of transplants taking place. We were able to film several patients having transplants done by various doctors. Below we will walk you through the most important steps in the transplant process. All the videos below are in MPEG format. We recommend you try downloading and playing one before downloading any others to be sure it works. First off, the patient is injected with local anesthetics to prevent any pain during removal of the donor area and creation of the recipient sites.
Second, a strip of donor hair is removed from the back of the head.
- Donor area is cut using a multibladed knife - 1.6MB
- Donor strip is removed from the scalp - 2.4MB
- The donor area is "undermined" - 1.1MB
- Donor area after suturing - 0.3MB
Third, the donor strip is cut by technicians into the grafts which will be transplanted.
Next, the recipient sites where the hairs will be placed are created, using a variety of methods.
- A laser is used to create the recipient sites - 0.8MB
- Gary Hitzig performs his "Linear" slot punch - 2.0MB
- Dr. Arnold uses his new slit device - 1.5MB
- Round punches - 0.9MB
- Dr. Rassman's new Rapidfire graft inserter - 1.4MB
Last, the individual grafts are taken and placed in the recipient slots.
There are a few other minor things not included here, such as bandaging, but these are the major steps in the transplant process.
